Koos Malgas acted as an assistant to the late Helen Martins who created the magical Owl House sculpture garden in the Karoo. Koos was her hands, in many ways, and worked from pictures Helen presented to him. In 1992 Beezy completed a series of drawings that Koos then turned into three-dimensional sculptures, with Beezy’s help. The two then worked together on the construction of sculptures to decorate the top of Beezy’s Art Factory building for which he Malgas was paid sufficient to buy a small truck, giving him temporary relief from the grinding poverty that dominated his life. He died in 2000, to join the angels his able hands so often created.
