The establishment of my Art Factory was the realization of my desire to bring art to the masses. Initially the public were able to see the printmaking process and ceramics being made as well as being able to buy items with my designs on.
The opening of the Art Factory in October 1998 was celebrated with Fabric of the People, a street fashion show, choreographed by acclaimed South African director Brett Bailey. The open-air event showcased fabric, clothing and homeware designed by Beezy for the Art Factory, using untrained models and actors including street people.
After a year of trying to run the Factory due to a slow market in Cape Town and possibly being ahead of its time, the business did not take off alongside my realization that I was first an artist then a businessman and I have since returned to my studio fulltime renting out the Factory space to other businesses. However I do still sell fabric from my house.
"Indisputably fun" - Chris Roper, Mail & Guardian, October 23-29 1998
