Koos Malgas acted as an assistant to the late Helen Martins who created the magical Owl House sculpture garden in the Karoo. Koos was her hands in many ways and worked from pictures Helen presented to him. In 1992 I completed a series of drawings that Koos then turned into three-dimensional sculptures that I assisted Koos in completing. Koos then assisted me with the construction of sculptures that decorate the top of the Art Factory building for which he was paid sufficient to buy a small truck, giving him temporary relief from the grinding poverty that dominated his life.
